Peacock Life is an Indian luxury furniture and decor house founded in 2010 by the interior designer Shabnam Gupta. It is known for maximalist design: layered colour, pattern, carving and texture rather than minimal, matched sets. Pieces are handcrafted to order by our own karigars in Mumbai, and the studio also takes on full interior design commissions across India.

Shabnam Gupta is an Indian interior designer based in Mumbai. She founded the design studio The Orange Lane in 2003 and Peacock Life in 2010. Her work spans residential, hospitality and retail interiors, and Peacock Life is the furniture and decor house that grew out of that practice — the pieces she could not find for her own projects, so made instead.

Maximalism is not clutter. It is the deliberate layering of colour, pattern, material and craft in one room, so that the space reads as collected over time rather than bought in a single afternoon. In practice it means a carved teak frame against a bold velvet, brass against bone inlay, a jewel palette instead of a neutral one. Every piece is designed to sit alongside others rather than to disappear.

In our own workshop in Mumbai, by karigars employed by us. We are not an importer or a reseller — the drawings, the frames, the upholstery and the finishing all happen in house. You can see the full process, from working drawing to crate, on our How it is made page.

Most pieces are. A made-to-order piece is built after you place the order, in the size, fabric and finish you choose. A smaller ready-to-ship range is held in stock and dispatched from Mumbai. Each product page states which applies to that piece.

Six weeks for most furniture, from order confirmation to delivery. Ready-to-ship pieces leave our Mumbai studio within a few days. The lead time is stated on every product page.

Yes. Anything from our fabric library goes onto any upholstered piece, and you are welcome to send us your own cloth — we will confirm the meterage you need. Fabric up to ₹1,000 per metre is included in the listed price. Anything above that is billed as per actuals, and we tell you the number before we cut.

Usually, yes. Longer, deeper, taller, a different polish, a different wood — tell our design team what the room needs and they will confirm whether it is possible and what it costs before any work begins. Embellishments and added detailing are quoted the same way.

Seasoned hardwood frames, with Burma teak where the piece calls for it, chosen because it holds its shape through a Mumbai monsoon and a Delhi summer. Upholstered pieces are built up over webbing and sinuous springs with foam cut to the shape of the frame. Individual materials are listed on each product page.

Yes, we deliver nationwide. Our own team places the piece in the room where it belongs and takes the packaging away with them.

Foam-wrapped, cushioned and corner-guarded, then boxed in double-wall cartons. Premium pieces travel crated in 12 mm plywood on a pallet. Quality-check photographs are taken before dispatch and every shipment is insured.

International orders are handled case by case. Write to online@peacocklife.com with the piece and the destination and we will come back with freight cost and timing.

Check the piece before you sign for it, and note any damage on the courier receipt. Then send us photographs within 24 hours at online@peacocklife.com and keep the packaging until we have replied. Our returns and refunds and warranty pages set out what is covered.
